Cloudflare is mainly a content distribution network, but the provide many other services like DNS, website security, vpn tunnels etc…just to name a few.
They are so huge that if they stopped working, the internet as we know it would largely cease to function.
This is the reason why they are a surveillance nightmare, because in many cases they can see very accurate information of connections from both client and server and everything in between.
This is why in the privacy community, they are generally avoided like the plague(i.e. google)
